Board members don’t need to know how to write prompts. They need to know what to ask. The list below is a good starting point for the conversation with your leadership team. If management can answer all of it clearly, the company is in good shape.
Strategy
- Where does AI give us a real advantage in the next 12 months, not just “efficiency” in general?
- What have we stopped, or decided not to do with AI, and why?
Data and risk
- Which company and customer data goes into external AI tools, and under what conditions?
- Do we use AI in sensitive areas, such as hiring, assessing people or decisions about customers, and who oversees it?
- What does the EU AI Act require of us and who follows the implementation timeline?
Rules and people
- Do we have a written AI policy that people actually know?
- How do we make sure people who use AI have the knowledge their role needs?
- Who is accountable when an AI-generated result is wrong?
Results
- What do we measure: time saved, quality, costs, customer satisfaction?
- What is the next concrete step and when do we report back?
How to use the list
Don’t send it as a questionnaire. Put two or three questions on every meeting agenda and ask for short answers with examples. Within a few months, AI becomes a leadership topic, not an IT project.
